Saturday, May 25th: it was a surprisingly cold and blustery Memorial Day weekend. But did we let that stop us?
No! You know why? 'Cause Cassildra came to town!
Because of the foul weather, we moved the venue indoors, to the Shops at Columbus Circle. Nine of us showed up, plus one non-dA friend; after the obligatory round of hugs, we all started catching everyone up about what's been happening since we'd seen each other last.
After about an hour, it became clear that no one else was coming. So we put together an impromptu contest: draw, write about, or photograph something of interest. thorns generously provided 500 points, and four people chose to participate. Just about then the weather broke, so we headed across the street to Central Park to find a bench and sit for a bit.
The overall winner was ANightChild, who won 200 points for her lovely pen sketch of bobilikehobos. We decided to award 100 points each in a three-way tie: for latinoman's heartfelt poem, Kronos2501's humorous drawing, and Cassildra's spontaneous snapshot.
The rain started up again, so we headed back to the mall. A few of us said their goodbyes; the rest of us headed downstairs to Whole Foods Market to sit down and have a bite to eat. We ended up chatting for another three hours, by which time our butts were numb but our hearts and minds were content.
What I really love about these devMEETs is that you never know what to expect! If you live in the area, I hope you can join us next time... which should be around the end of August.
