:raincloud: Saturday, May 25th: it was a surprisingly cold and blustery Memorial Day weekend. But did we let that stop us?

No! You know why? 'Cause Cassildra came to town! :woohoo:

Networking! by HaveTales-WillTell

Because of the foul weather, we moved the venue indoors, to the Shops at Columbus Circle. Nine of us showed up, plus one non-dA friend; after the obligatory round of hugs, we all started catching everyone up about what's been happening since we'd seen each other last.

:painter: After about an hour, it became clear that no one else was coming. So we put together an impromptu contest: draw, write about, or photograph something of interest. thorns generously provided 500 points, and four people chose to participate. Just about then the weather broke, so we headed across the street to Central Park to find a bench and sit for a bit.

:points: The overall winner was ANightChild, who won 200 points for her lovely pen sketch of bobilikehobos. We decided to award 100 points each in a three-way tie: for latinoman's heartfelt poem, Kronos2501's humorous drawing, and Cassildra's spontaneous snapshot.

(This, by the way, was not that snapshot.)

The rain started up again, so we headed back to the mall. A few of us said their goodbyes; the rest of us headed downstairs to Whole Foods Market to sit down and have a bite to eat. We ended up chatting for another three hours, by which time our butts were numb but our hearts and minds were content. :faint:

:XD: What I really love about these devMEETs is that you never know what to expect! If you live in the area, I hope you can join us next time... which should be around the end of August.

This looks like a really fun group. Great to know that there are DA members in the New York area.
Man...where have you guys been all my life? XD
I've been surrounded by non artist folks for so long, it was tempting to believe there aren't any Deviant Artist in NY to connect with. I've joined one NYC group but even that group haven't been active either. I hope everything is going well and it's just one of those seasons where everyone is super busy. Things in real life certainly does have a way of demanding much of our time and energy. I should know, I could barely practice art because of the many set backs that had bombarded me for years. eh, it's a long story really.  Sweating a little...

Anyway, I have this cool gift in interpretation. Something I discovered in mid commentary back when I first joined DA. Combining this with my writing skills, I am able to share creative feedback and connect with artist on a deeper level. It's a great way for me to support fellow artist, and I get to experience the unique worlds of many medias and broadening perspectives. Indeed art is a very powerful form of visual communication. The internet may make the world a smaller place, but art certainly makes the world a much bigger place. :)

I haven't checked this group in a while- it seems sadly dead. If anyone is interested I will be visiting the Aquarium in Brooklyn in the next week to test out my new camera.

I would love to meet some deviants!

I'm going to be in NYC in a few weeks. Is there an upcoming meet anywhere in the city? (:
